Used Books

The Philadelphia Inquirer recently published an article about Baldwin’s Book Barn, a used book store located in West Chester, PA. There are plenty of informative stories about Baldwin’s online.

The Inquirer article made me think about the bookstore and how relevant it became as part origin for my collage work, specifically the source for book pages as  substrate surfaces for my lift work. Some samples of those pages and cutouts follow below. The pressed clover, enclosed in wax paper, fell out of a book I had purchased from Baldwin’s, an incident that may be a fair example of the type of kismet the barn seems to possess or share at times.

Peter Buse, Polaroid

If you have an interest in Polaroid as cultural phenomena, technological wonder or artistic abstraction, seek out articles or related book on the subject by Peter Buse. Peter is the Dean of the School of the Arts at the University of Liverpool. His page there lists some of his committed work on the vast subject that is Polaroid photography. And elsewhere, as published in Sage Journals, from the perspective of an artist, I found his article, The Polaroid Image as Photo-Object, incisive as to what is or was this thing, Polariod.
